PROVIDENCE – Republicans remain a super minority in the Rhode Island political world, but they have gained almost 23,000 registered voters since 2018.
In that same period, Democrats lost 18,748 registered voters.
Registered Democrats still outnumber Republicans by more than 2-to1, but the trend in Rhode Island reflects a national trend spotlighted in a New York Times story headlined: " The Democratic Party Faces a Voter Registration Crisis."
With Democrats occupying all but 14 of the 113 legislative seats, plus every statewide office and Congressional seat for Rhode Island, no one in the local Democratic Party is declaring a crisis.
