The National Weather Service has issued a flood advisory for the Indian Canyon area of Palm Springs due to excessive rainfall expected this afternoon.

Minor flooding in low-lying and poor drainage areas could occur, along with rises in small streams and arroyos that are normally dry, the agency said.

The flood advisory is in effect until 4:32 p.m., Tuesday, Aug. 26.

The advisory means flooding is occurring or is imminent.

"It is important to know where you are relative to streams, rivers, or creeks which can become killers in heavy rains," NWS said. "Campers and hikers should avoid streams or creeks."
