FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. (WTVD) -- Hundreds of business leaders, elected officials, and residents gathered at the Crown Expo Center on Tuesday for the annual "State of the Community" event - a forum meant to highlight progress in Cumberland County while addressing challenges that remain.

Roughly 500 people attended the event, which featured speakers including Fayetteville Mayor Mitch Colvin, U.S. Sen. Thom Tillis, U.S. Rep. David Rouzer, and local leaders from healthcare and higher education.

Colvin touted economic investment in the Fayetteville area and the creation of thousands of new jobs. He also pointed to upcoming changes at Fayetteville Regional Airport, which is slated to soon allow international flights.
