The Louis Armstrong New Orleans International Airport broke ground Tuesday on a new $84 million connector road that will more quickly transport passengers and bypass traffic.

The new road will provide a designated route for shuttle buses moving between the new airport terminal on the northern end of the campus and the economy garage, employee garage and rental car center near the old terminal on the southern end.

It also serves as a critical step in supporting growing infrastructure as airport officials plan for future expansions and a potential rail line to Baton Rouge.

The project has an estimated completion of the end of 2027, and is expected to cut shuttle times in half.
