Police in Oak Bay are searching for the driver who struck a cyclist, dragging their bicycle a short distance, before fleeing the scene.
Police received a report of a cyclist struck near the intersection of Newport Avenue and St. David Street shortly after noon Friday (Aug. 22).
"Witnesses reported a white SUV travelling southbound on Newport Avenue sideswiped the cyclist and continued without stopping," according to a report from Oak Bay Police. "The bicycle became caught on the vehicle and was dragged a short distance before the vehicle left the scene."
Emergency Health Services and Oak Bay Fire Department treated the cyclist for minor cuts and abrasions, while the bicycle sustained minor damage to the handlebars and front wheel.
