National Weather Service (NWS) meteorologists addressed a viral social media post claiming this year's Atlantic hurricane season was "over," calling it "misinformation" and warning people not to let their guard down when it comes to tropical storms and hurricanes.

"The historical peak of the Atlantic Hurricane Season activity runs through September and into October. During this time, storms have historically formed in greater numbers and with greater intensity."

Why It Matters

The Atlantic hurricane season began on June 1 and runs through November 30.
