ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WROC) — Two people were airlifted to the hospital Monday morning after a garbage truck and pickup truck collided at the intersection of State Route 96 and State Route 414 in the town of Romulus, according to the Seneca County Sheriff’s Office.

Deputies said the garbage truck, driven by a 35-year-old Geneva man, was heading north on Route 96 around 9:30 a.m. when a pickup truck, driven by a 59-year-old Roslyn Heights man, attempted to turn left onto the highway from Route 414 and failed to yield. The vehicles collided, causing heavy damage.

The 59-year-old driver was trapped and had to be extricated by firefighters. He and a 53-year-old female passenger were seriously injured and flown to Upstate University Hospital in Syracuse by Mercy Flight and LifeNet.
