PHILADELPHIA PA -- For generations, Maine Maritime Academy has had a State of Maine vessel in its fleet for students to train and learn on before graduating.

However, according to MMA's President, each of those four vessels was handed down to the academy.

Now, for the first time in school history, its Fifth state of Maine was built specifically for the students on board....And a long-awaited christening ceremony officially marked the beginning of a new chapter.

On Tuesday at the Hanwha Philly shipyard in Philadelphia, a christening ceremony was held for the national security multi-mission vessel.

Those in attendance included academy officials, U.S. Transportation Secretary, U.S. Secretary of Labor, the president of the Republic of Korea, and Acting maritime administrator.
