Former Ecuadorian presidential candidate Yaku Pérez filed a complaint today with the Attorney General's Office against President Daniel Noboa and First Lady Lavinia Valbonesi for influence peddling for a mining project in the province of Azuay.

According to Pérez, the lawsuit extends to the Canadian-owned mining company Dundee Precious Metals, due to irregularities related to the issuance of the environmental license for the Loma Larga mining project.

Speaking to the press, Pérez said that on June 23, the government granted the environmental license to the company, a process that, he asserted, was carried out "in secret and clandestinely," according to Prensa Latina.
