GALT, Calif. —
The city of Galt and its police department held two ceremonies Tuesday to honor Officer Harminder Grewal, who died four years ago after being hit by a drunk driver while on his way to assist with traffic control at the Caldor Fire.
A wreath-laying ceremony took place at the police station, where a memorial for Grewal is set up outside.
Following the ceremony, a street in the Liberty Ranch housing development was renamed "Officer Grewal Parkway."
"As members of our organization and our greater Grewal family that we now embrace, that we take time every year to reflect on the sacrifice Harminder made trying to make our community a better place to live," said Brian Kalinowski, Galt police chief.
