A HMRC cliff-edge rule means UK households risk losing benefits and perks. More and more hgh-earners are sacrificing their salary in schemes with their employers to stay eligible to HMRC perks like Child Benefit and Tax-Free Childcare.

HMRC perks can hand UK mums and dads £9,500 savings per year for the three years in nursery before starting school. Child Benefit is worth £1,354 a year and over £800 for additional children, meaning households could be £10,000 better off.

But to qualify, parents must earn under £100,000 in net adjusted income. Going over £100k could cost mums and dads thousands as a result, causing them to give up portions of their salary.
