The South Korea and U.S. militaries on Wednesday held a joint training exercise near a river in Yeoju, southeast of South Korea's capital, as part of their annual Freedom Shield combined exercise.

The drill showed South Korean and American military personnel practicing crossing wet gaps.

Troops from the South Korean Army’s 7th Engineer Brigade and the U.S. 2nd Infantry Division, as well as South Korea-U.S. Combined Division’s 11th Engineer Battalion, took part in the drills.

During the event, troops constructed a pontoon bridge using equipment including amphibious bridging vehicles.

The aim of the drill was to enhance joint amphibious operation capability and interoperability.
