For Cynthia Terry, it started about 29 years ago with a bullhorn and sandwiches.

Then she ran a food bank through her church, Healing Center Worldwide.

On Saturday, Terry marked the seventh anniversary of her nonprofit, Changing Lives Outreach Center, with a monthly giveaway that attracted hundreds to the small space outside of the Keen Street location in the northern part of the city.

Terry, a Danville native, was raised by a single mother who also cared for her brother and sister.

Even though her mom worked two jobs, things were still tight as the days ticked down on the calendar.

“She would bring this extra food home toward the end of the month,” Terry told the Register & Bee last week during an interview at Changing Lives Outreach Center.
