CLEVELAND, Ohio — There was no slowing Parker Messick down on Tuesday as he pitched Cleveland to its first win in more than a week. Messick delivered a masterful performance, earning his first major league win with seven shutout innings in a 3-0 Guardians victory against the Tampa Bay Rays , helping snap his team’s six-game losing streak.

The left-hander allowed just four hits, struck out six and didn’t issue a walk in his second career start. He retired the first nine batters he faced before Chandler Simpson’s leadoff single in the fourth inning, and later worked out of trouble by stranding Yandy Diaz at second base following a leadoff double in the seventh.
