(NewsNation) — Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy is set to join Amtrak President Roger Harris in Washington, D.C., on Wednesday for the launch of the company's new high-speed NextGen Acela train.
The inaugural ride from D.C. to New York City comes after multiple setbacks and years of delays. The trains were initially scheduled to debut in 2022.
After stopping at Penn Station in NYC, the train will then head to Boston’s South Station, with stops in New Haven and Providence along the way.
Initially, five trains will be in operation throughout the Northeast corridor, with 28 trains set to be running by 2027.
