(KFVS) - Crisp mornings and mild afternoons are typically enjoyed by just about everyone during the fall season in the Heartland.

The break from summer does come with a wildlife warning.

It’s birthing season for venomous snakes, including timber rattlesnakes, copperheads and cottonmouths.

State conservation and wildlife departments in Missouri, Illinois and Kentucky say the birthing season tends to last anywhere from August to October.

The number of babies in litters varies from the type.

According to the Livingston County Office of Emergency Management, copperheads can give birth to about 8 to 10 young, which have greenish to yellow-tipped tails for about a year.

The Illinois Department of Natural Resources (IDNR) says timber rattlesnakes can have any from 6 to 10 young.
