The Cubs got a couple of unfriendly reminders in Tuesday night. It’s hard to win night after night on the road and just how daunting the task of chasing down the Brewers is going to be at this point. The Cubs offense didn’t look particularly strong and Matthew Boyd was not his usual dominant self. All of that added up to a 5-2 loss and a game lost to the Brewers in the standings.

Ironically, the Cubs had gained a couple of games on the Brewers over the weekend after this Giants team took games from them on Saturday and Sunday. The Giants are out of contention for the playoffs, but are clearly still playing hard and playing well. 42-year-old Justin Verlander finally picked up his second win of the season but still sits with a garish 2-10 record that has be humbling for a guy with his body
