TOLLESON, Ariz. — The topic of immigration and the border took center stage at the first debate for Arizona’s 7th Congressional District.
Democrat Adelita Grijalva and Republican Daniel Butierez are running for the vacant seat. This comes after the death of longtime congressman and Adelita’s father, Raúl Grijalva.
The district stretches from southern Arizona up into Tolleson, Goodyear, Avondale and parts of Buckeye.
Both candidates are passionate about how immigration is being handled in the U.S. The difference was stark on Tuesday night in Tucson.
"It is inhumane," Grijalva said. "It should be intolerable for any of us to see what is happening to our immigrant communities. They are deporting veterans. They are deporting citizens. We should all be very afraid."
