During the mid-morning hours Aug. 25, nearly a dozen people were at the new pickleball courts at Mills Park playing a few games before the heat set in.

On the same morning, Carson City officials announced in a news release the recent opening of six new courts that cost about $1.1 million.

“The project scope included the replacement of aging and unusable tennis courts with new post-tension concrete pickleball courts, widened sidewalks and improved access, increasing opportunities for park users of all ages and abilities,” the city’s release said. “Concrete courts will be more durable, last longer and require less ongoing maintenance.”
