A man accused of raping a woman says he was shocked and upset when first told about the allegation against him.

David Munday told his trial at Plymouth Crown Court the woman was a willing participant and sex between the pair was consensual.

The 33-year-old, of Ferndale Avenue, has pleaded not guilty to a single charge of rape. It relates to an incident at an address in the city in February 2022.

Munday, a journalist, is accused of taking advantage of the woman when she was in no fit state to give her consent. The alleged victim had been downing cocktails and shots during a six-hour binge drinking session with a female friend.
