Two daily temperature records were broken in the Mid-Island on Tuesday, as special weather statements related to heat remain for large portions of Vancouver Island.
According to preliminary data from Environment Canada, new daily temperature records were set in the Nanaimo and Qualicum Beach areas.
In Nanaimo, temperatures reached 31.2°C on Tuesday, marking the hottest Aug. 26 on record. The previous record was 31.0°C set on Aug. 26, 2016.
Meanwhile, Qualicum Beach also set a new daily temperature record, with the mercury hitting 28.8°C on Tuesday, edging out the previous record of 28.6°C set in 2016.
Temperature records have been kept in the Nanaimo area since 1892, while temperature records for the Qualicum Beach area date back to 1962.
