RADFORD, Va. (WDBJ) - Earlier this month, the Virginia Board of Education approved the New River Valley Governor’s School for the Arts and Humanities . Now, school districts and Radford University are sharing anticipated impact of the new program.

Radford University will be home to the first new Governor’s School in Virginia since 2009. Unlike most Governor’s Schools in the state, which focus primarily on STEM careers, the New River Valley Governor’s School will specialize in arts and humanities. It will serve gifted and advanced high school students from Giles County , Montgomery County , Floyd County , Pulaski County , and Radford City Public Schools .
