ST. PAUL — Out of a pool of seven candidates , voters decided on Tuesday, Aug. 26, who will face off in a November special election for two open Senate seats.

The two seats were left open following the resignation of former Sen. Nicole Mitchell on July 25 and the unexpected death of Sen. Bruce Anderson on July 21. A special election is set for Nov. 4 to potentially sway the control of the Senate, which currently stands at a 33-32 DFL majority.

For Mitchell’s seat, District 47 covering Woodbury, Rep. Amanda Hemmingsen-Jaeger beat out Rep. Ethan Cha for the Democratic nomination with 82% of the vote on Tuesday. Hemmingsen-Jaeger will face the only Republican candidate running, Dwight Dorau, in November.
