SHENANDOAH JUNCTION - Washington's girls soccer team went into Tuesday night's game against Jefferson seeking its first win of the season.

Mission accomplished.

Trailing by a goal at halftime, the defending Class AAA champion Patriots scored twice in the second half, rallying for a 2-1 win over the Cougars.

Jefferson put the pressure on Washington early, getting a number of scoring opportunities, and the Cougars came through with the first goal of the game eight minutes in after Melaina Ryder stole the ball away a few yards in front of the goalie and fired a shot into the back of the net to give her team a 1-0 lead.

The rest of the first half, it was the Patriots with the advantage, and they, too, had a number of scoring opportunities but were unable to any tallies on the scoreboard.
