American funk-rock band Morris Day and the Time, known for tracks like “Jungle Love” and “The Bird,” will bring their vibrant sound to the Chumash Casino Resort’s Samala Showroom at 8 p.m. Friday, Aug. 29.

The original group known as “The Time” was a creation of pop icon Prince, who wanted to produce a street-wise funk band as a contrast to his more soulful R&B sound. Prince placed his high school friend Morris Day as the lead vocalist, and he would cast the group in his 1984 film “Purple Rain,” which captured the Minneapolis music scene at its peak.
“Purple Rain” was a turning point for the group, bringing a greater surge of popularity with hit singles like “Jungle Love” and “Th
