LOUISVILLE, Ky. —

Three aging overpasses along I-65 in Louisville will be replaced, and it will mean a total interstate shutdown for months next summer.

Gov. Andy Beshear announced the $150 million overpass improvement project on Wednesday.

The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet awarded a contract to Kiewit Infrastructure South Co. to replace three bridges near downtown: Kentucky and Brook streets; Hill Street, a CSX rail line and Burnett Avenue; and Bradley Avenue.

The goal is to improve one of Kentucky’s busiest transportation arteries.

According to KYTC, all the bridges are more than 60 years old and are in poor condition. They will be fully replaced.

The I-65 Central Corridor project will be done in phases.
