PAWTUCKET, R.I. (WPRI) — A Pawtucket city employee who was fired last year over an "offensive" comment on social media has been brought back after appealing his termination in court.

Mayor Don Grebien confirmed in a statement that Joseph Morais, a senior engineering project manager for the city, has returned to work after the ruling.

"Mr. Morais chose to contest his termination before an arbitrator," Grebien said. "My administration has vigorously defended our decision to terminate Morais, and I stand by that decision today."

"However, the arbitrator has ruled that Mr. Morais must be reinstated to his Senior Project Leader position," Grebien continued.
