LAWRENCE — Lyrik Rawls didn’t even realize how wild his interception looked until he saw it in slow motion.

Rawls, a redshirt senior safety, recalled Monday the moment just happened so fast. When he made the pick, during Kansas football’s season-opening win over the weekend against Fresno State, it was as if he saw the sky and the ground in the span of a second as he flipped over after making contact with another player. All he could think, when he saw the ball tipped up into the air, was, “OK, let me try to grab it.”

Well, Rawls didn’t just corral the pass, he held onto it as well. Regardless of how happy he felt to make that play, as the Jayhawks (1-0) collected a 31-7 victory, he also remained focused on holding onto it more so than thinking about the crowd or celebrating the play
