WASHINGTON (DC News Now) -- The Humane Rescue Alliance is calling on the Washington, D.C. community for help after a dog was shot and killed in Northeast earlier this month.

Three-year-old Waffles was shot in the 600 block of 18th Street, NE, on the evening of Aug. 4, according to the HRA. The dog, who suffered two gunshot wounds to his upper body, later died from his injuries.

According to a police report obtained by DC News Now, officers responded to the neighborhood at around 7 p.m. that day, where Waffles' owner, Sean Branchaw, said they found their back fence open and Waffles missing.
