GRAND RAPIDS, MI - Grand Rapids recently reopened the intersection of Lake Michigan Drive and Valley Avenue near a roundabout after a month-long closure for upgrades.

The work is part of a project that reconstructed Valley Avenue from Fulton to Bridge Street, specifically the intersection of Lake Michigan Drive and Valley.

Lake Michigan and Valley was closed from July 14 through Aug. 8 to allow the city to bring the curb lines in to slow speeds through the roundabout.

“Previously, traffic has more of a direct line through there, which was causing excessive speeding,” said Tim Burkman, city engineer. “It was really curb and pathway work on the quadrants of the roundabout that was being done and why we had the intersection closed for approximately a month.”
