Ryan Murphy is turning focus to a new real-life monster.
Netflix has released the first posters teasing "Monster: The Ed Gein Story," the third installment in Murphy's anthology series that follows a different true crime case each season.
This time, Charlie Hunnam will star as Ed Gein, the infamous murderer who was a loose inspiration for the classic Alfred Hitchcock film "Psycho." His killings were also an inspiration of the original "The Texas Chain Saw Massacre" and other horror movies.
"In the frozen fields of 1950s rural Wisconsin, a friendly, mild-mannered recluse named Eddie Gein lived quietly on a decaying farm — hiding a house of horrors so gruesome it would redefine the American nightmare," Netflix's plot synopsis reads.
"Driven by isolation, psychosis, and an all-consuming obsession with his mother, Gein's perverse crimes birthed a new kind of monster that would haunt Hollywood for decades."
Netflix described Gein as the "blueprint for modern horror," citing his role in inspiring several classic films, and teased that Season 3 is the show's "most harrowing installment yet."
'Monster' Season 3 cast
Suzanna Son, Tom Hollander, Laurie Metcalf, Vicky Krieps, Olivia Williams, Joey Pollari, Tyler Jacob Moore, Charlie Hall, Will Brill, Mimi Kennedy, Robin Weigert and Lesley Manville also star.
The first season of "Monster," released in 2022, starred Evan Peters as serial killer Jeffrey Dahmer. In 2024, Nicholas Alexander Chavez and Cooper Koch played Lyle and Erik Menendez, two brothers convicted of killing their parents, in the second season.
"Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story" was the subject of controversy after the real Menendez family came out against the show, while viewers objected to a storyline exploring a possible incestuous relationship between the brothers.
In a statement shared by his wife, Erik Menendez slammed the show as being "rooted in horrible and blatant lies," adding, "It is with a heavy heart that I say, I believe Ryan Murphy cannot be this naive and inaccurate about the facts of our lives so as to do this without bad intent."
Speaking to Netflix's Tudum, Murphy defended the show, calling it the "best thing that has happened to the Menendez brothers in 30 years in prison." Just days before the photos from Season 3 dropped, both of the Menendez brothers were denied parole in California.
'Monster: The Ed Gein Story' release date
"Monster: The Ed Gein Story" will hit Netflix on Oct. 3, 2025.
