NORWALK, Conn. — Norwalk Police have arrested the mother of a one-year-old who nearly drowned last month but was revived by a police officer at the scene.
The child’s mother, Carla Sanchez, 26, of Norwalk, turned herself in on Tuesday at the Norwalk Police Department. She was charged with two counts of Risk of Injury to a Minor and held on $50,000. She is scheduled to appear in court on Sept. 9.
On July 12, Norwalk Officer Vazquez responded to a home on Vollmer Avenue on a report of a one-year-old child who was unresponsive. When he arrived, family members handed him the unconscious child.
Vazquez performed life-saving measures, including turning the child onto his stomach, holding the child at a downward angle, and delivering firm back blows. The child soon began to vomit water, cle
