Needing help along the defensive line, the Detroit Lions added two young defenders on Wednesday as they gear up for Week 1 versus the Green Bay Packers.

According to the NFL’s waiver wire, the Lions claimed defensive tackle Tyler Lacy from the Jacksonville Jaguars and defensive end Tyrus Wheat from the Dallas Cowboys.

Tuesday at 4 p.m. was the deadline for all teams to set their 53-man rosters, and both players were waived as part of the final cuts.

Lacy, 25, was a fourth-round pick by Jacksonville in 2023 out of Oklahoma State. He appeared in 13 games last season with eight starts, finishing with 25 tackles, including two for loss, and one quarterback hit. He logged 340 defensive snaps and 48 on special teams.

The move marked the second former Jaguar added by Detroit on Wednesday.
