When Rose Brinks was diagnosed with ovarian cancer two and a half years ago, she was given six weeks to live, her daughter Laura Pritchett said.

She started getting her affairs in order. She sold land near her family's Laporte farm property and had Pritchett drive her to her "last" haircut.

But, as a testament to her tenacity, Rose Brinks kept living. She got many more haircuts and exceeded expectations to the end, which came on Aug. 25 when she died at her home. She was 90 years old.
