Two stars from some of the 2010s' biggest supernatural teen dramas, The Vampire Diaries and Teen Wolf , are teaming up for something new. Nina Dobrev and Tyler Hoechlin will lead It Happened One Summer alongside Virginia Gardner , a new report reveals. The film is in pre-production and is based on Tessa Bailey 's hit novel of the same name. It Happened One Summer will be directed by Peter Hutchings ( The Hating Game ) from a screenplay by Christina Mengert and Joseph Muszynski . Bailey serves as a producer alongside Claude Dal Farra , Brian Keady , Lisa Berger , and Samantha Martin . The film's official synopsis reads:
