The Georgia High School Football Daily honored Newnan High School on Wednesday with its statewide “Team of the Week” award following the Cougars’ dramatic comeback victory over rival East Coweta.
Representatives from GHSF Daily, along with sponsors Siemens and BSN Sports, presented head coach Chip Walker and the Cougars with a plaque during an afternoon ceremony in the school gym.
Newnan earned the honor after storming back from a 25-point deficit to defeat East Coweta 60-56 last Friday, snapping a six-game losing streak to the Indians. The game marked the highest-scoring contest in the 34-year history of the rivalry.
