PINE RIVER — The Pine River-Backus football team has one of its largest number of seniors in recent years as the Tigers look to bounce back from a winless season last fall.

“With the biggest senior class in recent years, we’re looking to rebound after a disappointing 2024 season,” said head coach Nate Fischer, whose team is scheduled to open at home against Red Lake at 6 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 28. “With a new district schedule, I expect us to get back to being a competitive team on a weekly basis.”

Returning letterwinners are Shaunn Reyes, Owen Dabill, Koal Oberfell, Andrew Volk and Brody Mongan.

Others who could contribute are Logan Swiggart, Scott Scovel, Tristen Johnson, Easton Wynn, Zayne Koski, Blake Hoplin, Karsen Petersen, Dawson Dabill, Dominic Zwart, Ethan Bergem, Nathaniel Treagu
