The board of directors with the Penticton Art Gallery declares that laying off two employees and reducing hours was done out of pure necessity.

“Cost saving measures are being taken due to the financial deficit accrued, making these actions unavoidable. It is the hope of the board that by pausing the employment of our highest-paid position, additional time can be afforded to perform an in-depth internal evaluation and the consideration of an operational realignment,” the board wrote in a press release that was issued Friday after our press deadline.

Gone for an undisclosed amount of time is curator Paul Crawford and gallery gift shop coordinator Karen Walls.

The hours are being reduced to four days per week beginning after the holiday weekend. People may visit the gallery on Wednesday t
