The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) has issued a 48-hour weather alert, warning of torrential monsoon rains piling pressure on river basins across Pakistan.

Moisture-driven systems originating from both the Bay of Bengal and Arabian Sea are expected to trigger severe rainfall, especially over the upper and central regions of Punjab, elevating the risk of urban flooding, flash floods, and landslides.

The Ravi River watershed faces the most immediate threat, with reports indicating a high likelihood of urban inundation and river overflow.

Already at Jassar, the Ravi is surging to an exceptionally high flood level, discharging 202,020 cusecs. Meanwhile, Shahdara and Head Baloki remain at medium flood levels, raising concerns for nearby communities.
