HAMAKUA (HawaiiNewsNow) - A fire on Hawaii Island is going into day three of burning.

On Friday, around 4 p.m., a fire broke out in Laupahoehoe district on Kaala Road.

Upon investigation, firefighters found a plume of smoke burning deep in the eucalyptus forest. The fire was inaccessible by vehicles or ground crews.

A night watch was set up to monitor fire progress.

On Saturday at morning break, a full-scale brush fire was initiated.

The fire changed direction and started to burn through eucalyptus trees and into the Manowaiale`e Forest Reserve in Hamakua.

Dozers were utilized to create fire breaks and roadways for HFD and volunteer vehicles to create a last stand for the approaching fire front. But the fire burned through the fire breaks and into the forest.
