PORTLAND, Ore. — Several campsites, hiking trails and forest roads have been closed ahead of Labor Day Weekend due to the Emigrant Fire burning roughly 20 miles southeast of Oakridge. The Willamette National Forest said the closures are for the public and firefighter's safety.

The fire is located in a remote area three miles southwest of Indigo Springs Campground and is approximately 16,372 acres in size and is 0% contained. The lightning-caused fire was first reported on Sunday.

Officials will hold a public meeting in the main auditorium at Oakridge Junior/Senior High School at 6 p.m. this evening for residents in the area.

Temperatures are expected to drop by around 10 degrees over the weekend, which will help with firefighting efforts.
