PORTLAND, Ore. — A man was arrested this week in California in connection with a deadly shooting at a North Portland motel earlier this month, Portland police said.

U.S. Marshals arrested Andy Wright, 38, in San Francisco on Tuesday. He is being held in a California jail, where he awaits extradition to Oregon on charges of second-degree murder and felon in possession of a firearm.

On Aug. 11, Portland police officers responded to a welfare check call at the Super Value Inn in the 5200 block of North Interstate Avenue around 7:50 p.m. Officers found a man dead from a gunshot wound. The victim was identified as 41-year-old Philip E. Redmon. His family has been notified, police said.

The suspect had left the scene before officers arrived, according to the Portland Police Bureau.
