The fire chief for the Seeley Lake Rural Fire District announced his retirement at a monthly board meeting last week, but an interim chief was quickly selected at a special meeting Monday night.

Soon-to-step-down fire chief Dave Lane had been with the department since April 2018. The Seeley Swan Pathfinder was first to report the leadership change, noting that Lane expected some "changes" to the district in the future.

Lane told the Missoulian on Wednesday that the main reason he is retiring from his position is because of a hostile work environment.

"For the past number of years, a certain board member attacked me in any way she could think of," Lane said. "... It is out of control."
