NEWPORT, Maine — The body of a Plymouth woman who had been missing for more than a week was found Tuesday in a wooded area in Newport, according to the Penobscot County Sheriff's Office.

Deputies said 70-year-old Pauline Berardi was last seen Aug. 15, leaving her Plymouth home in a black sedan. Officials stated that she did not drive, and the identity of the vehicle's driver was unknown.

The sheriff's office said that it received a missing persons complaint on August 22.

At the time, investigators believed she was in the Newport and Detroit area and said they were concerned for her welfare.

Her body was found at about 2:30 p.m. Tuesday in a wooded area of Williams Road in Newport, the sheriff's office said.
