With the school year barely underway, news of a school shooting has already ruptured the back-to-school routine.

Two children were killed and 17 injured in a shooting Wednesday in Minneapolis, in which a gunman fired at children celebrating Mass at the Annunciation Catholic School just before 8:30 a.m.

“Particularly this time of year, when kids are starting school, to hear about this, it’s shocking for the kids and shocking for the parents,” said Anthony Mannarino, director and co-founder of AHN’s Center for Traumatic Stress in Children and Adolescents. “It’s obviously every parent’s nightmare to think about such a thing happening.”
