MONROE, La. (KNOE) - Rayville Police have arrested a man suspected of passing fraudulent checks across multiple parishes.

Rayville Police Chief Markus Turner said the department received a call from the local Brookshire’s Manager Tavares Sawyer regarding a male inside the store who was suspected of cashing fraudulent checks previously.

He says once on scene, officers made contact with an unidentified black male pushing a shopping cart full of merchandise, who matched the suspect’s description.

Officers detained the individual without incident, and he was taken to the Rayville Police Department for questioning.

Officials say a driver’s license number from one of the previous checks was used to identify the man as Melvin DeAndre McFarland.
