WILDWOOD — A summer tradition in the shore resort town is ending a little early this year, as the city announced it will not hold its weekly fireworks display this Friday.

A statement on the city's tourism website says the effects of Hurricane Erin — a storm that sat well out to sea last week but whose winds and rains lashed the Jersey Shore — damaged the fireworks launch site and equipment at Pine Avenue.

The fireworks were also canceled last Friday.

The resort hosts weekly Friday night fireworks displays starting in late June through Labor Day weekend, with a synchronized musical score broadcast by a local radio station. In the event of rain, the fireworks are rescheduled for Sunday.
