After a two-year saga, Brentwood's board of commissioners has voted to cancel an agreement with a Franklin design firm, C&I Design, for a proposed racquetball facility.
The board, featuring a newly elected Kim Smithson Gawrys and Janet L. Donahue, voted unanimously to cancel the agreement, once forecast to cost about $1 million for the facility's design plan plus an additional engineering plan to alleviate traffic concerns in the area.
The racquetball facility was explected to cost $11 million from start to finish.
City leaders came up with the idea for it after the Maryland Farms YMCA closed in 2022. The facility would have been built on the former sporting grounds there.
