PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) — One of Amtrak’s new Acela express trains stopped in Providence Wednesday to give the public a look ahead of the new high speed rail option that launches on Aug. 28.
Amtrak said the new trains carry more passengers in upgraded cabins with free Wi-Fi and more power outlets.
Twenty-eight new trains will enter service through 2027, and they will offer 27% more capacity per trip as well as expanded schedules.
They can travel from Providence to Washington D.C. in just under six hours.
The trains were first announced in 2016.
