PITTSBURGH —
The Catholic Diocese of Pittsburgh is offering prayers and outlining its security posture following a shooting during a school Mass at a Catholic school in Minneapolis.
“We offer our prayers to the school community, to the families, to the educators. This is very traumatic,” Pittsburgh Bishop Mark Eckman said Wednesday. “This is a parent’s worst nightmare. You send your child to school, where you think they’re going to be safe, and especially if they’re going to church, where this is probably the opening Mass for that student body to begin a new school year. And this is not what you expect or what you want to happen.” Advertisement
Local Diocesan officials told Pittsburgh's Action News 4 that school Masses are open to the public, but are also protected by officers.
